Library Procedures

Hours

The library is open from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM except during the librarian's lunch period (Period 6) and on days when the librarian needs to attend after school meetings or other functions. Any changes will be announced during announcements and posted in the Daily Bulletin.

Computer Use

There are 5 computers in the library that students can use for word processing or Internet research. Students should note that the computers are provided for educational purposes and that their use of the computers should be restricted to doing research, writing papers or similar educational uses.

  • Students need to sign in at the main desk before using a computer.
  • Students may be limited to 15 minutes of use at one time depending on the demand for use  during any given period.
  • Students may not Instant Messaging.

Any student using Instant Messaging will be asked to leave the computer.

Borrowing Books

Students can borrow books from the library for a 2 week period. Some materials may have a shorter circulation period depending on demand.

Students will receive an overdue notice for books not returned on time. If an item is not returned after three overdue notices have been issued,  a detention may be issued at the discretion of the librarian.

If a student loses or damages a book so that it is no longer useful they will be asked to pay for a replacement.

Library Atmosphere

Any student coming into the library should either be assigned to the library on a regular basis such as for a study hall or should have a pass from the faculty or staff member who sent them to the library. They will not be able to stay in the library unless either of these conditions is met.

Students are asked to sign in at the main desk when they come into the library for any reason.

Students are reminded that the library is a place for quiet work.

  • They are not to talk or make other noises that can be disturbing to other students.
  • They should at no time throw anything across the room.
  • If students need to work together on a group project they should ask the librarian for permission.
  • If they need to leave the library for any reason after signing in, they must ask the permission of the librarian.

Magazines

Students are not allowed to take magazines from the library. However, they can inquire about our Proquest Direct magazine database service that they can use either in the library or through remote access from home. This service provides access to a wealth of full text traditional research sources. Students can obtain the access information from Mrs. Sozek.
